Most of the 100 counterfeit Australian $50 notes were still joined together on large sheets of adhesive plastic and weren't separated into individual wads of cash like the real, legal currency.

Police from Perth's southern suburbs allegedly stumbled upon these fake banknotes grouped in lots of three, masquerading as $5,000 in cash, during a visit on Wednesday for an unrelated matter.

They also found devices to make counterfeit money, including a combination printer and scanner, plastic adhesive sheeting along with special stencils, dyes, paper and ink.

A 36-year-old man from suburban Thornlie has been charged with making counterfeit money, possessing instruments for counterfeiting, possessing materials used for counterfeiting, and knowingly having counterfeit money.

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday and is due to reappear in court on January 12.

A woman found in the house with him on Wednesday was released without charge.
