Matic has been left off the Blues' squad list for their pre-season tour of Asia, with the 40million arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko accelerating his departure despite Matic's role in the Premier League title victory during manager Antonio Conte's first season.

Matic had been very keen on a move to Old Trafford to be reunited with former boss Jose Mourinho but relations between the Premier League rivals have cooled since United hijacked Chelsea s deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

Inter Milan enquired about Matic but decided the fee was too high for a player with a similar skill-set to Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is already part of their squad.

Juventus have money to spend after selling Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan for 35million.

Federico Bernardeschi is one player who looks certain to arrive after a fee of 35m was agreed with Fiorentina. The Old Lady are hopeful the deal will be done in order for the youngster to fly to the United States for their pre-season tour.
