Michael Beale returns to Liverpool with new academy coaching role after short stint with Sao Paulo

  • Michael Beale will become head of coaching for the foundation phase
  • Former U23 coach left the club last year to become Sao Paulo assistant manager
  • He quit in July feeling the project had changed from what he had been promised

Michael Beale is to return to Liverpool with a new role as head of coaching for the youngest players entering the Kirkby Academy.

The former under-23s coach left the club last year to become assistant manager at Brazilian club Sao Paulo.

But the Englishman stepped down in July, feeling the project in Brazil was not going in the direction that he had been promised.

‪18/09/12 was my 1st day at @lfc academy. Delighted to confirm that 18/09/17 will be the start of pt2 with this fantastic club. The task of head of coaching for the foundation phase is something that has me really excited. Skill development is an area that I am hugely passionate about and working with the youngest players gives you so much joy on a daily basis. The academy is a family and it feels great to be going “home” to work alongside both excellent people and coaches. #LFCfamily‬

And having spent the past few weeks around the academy in recent weeks, he has now formalised his return with a role as 'head of coaching for the foundation phase.'

'September 19, 2012 was my first day at Liverpool's academy. Delighted to confirm that September 18, 2017 will be the start of part two with this fantastic club.

The role will see Beale work with players aged six to nine as the club tries to develop early skills bases and identify players to progress through the age groups.
