With uncertainty surrounding Carlo Ancelotti's long-term future at the club, Nagelsmann has come into contention as a possible replacement.

He told Eurosport: 'Bayern Munich plays a big role in my dreams. I lived in Munich for many years. I come from Landsberg am Lech, not so far from Munich.

'My wife and my kid will also move to Munich shortly. We're building a house there. It's our hometown.

'I'm very happy in life — however Bayern Munich would make me even happier. But it does not mean that my life fortune totally depends on Bayern Munich.'

Bayern Sporting Director Matthias Sammer refused to rule out the move, admitting: 'Time will tell.

'And if everything goes it's usual course we can safely assume that it will happen sometime.'

Ancelotti played down the link but admitted it was 'normal' for Nagelsmann to have ambitions to manage Germany's top club.

'I think it's totally normal that one young manager, good manager like Julian has a dream to train a top club,' the Italian told a news conference.

'Also, he's German, it's absolutely normal and last year I told him that maybe in the future I wish him the best to be the manager of a top club.'
