Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder Arda Turan has been slapped with a record-breaking suspension for attacking, threatening and insulting match officials during last week's crunch league clash with Sivasspor.
The Turkish Professional Football Discipline Board announced the decision to ban Turan for 16 games on Thursday, meaning he will miss nearly half of next season.
The former Barcelona man lost his cool after Instanbul's title tilt took a huge dent when Volkan Babacan turned the ball into his own net late into stoppage time.

The Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder was sent off in last week's game for attacking the linesman
With the score at 1-1 and just one minute remaining in the game, the Turkish international went into meltdown and shoved the linesman after he awarded the away side a free-kick.
Turan also made aggressive gestures towards the referee after receiving his marching orders and was subsequently fined 39,000 Turkish liras (approximately £6,800) in conjunction with the ban.
Basaksehir's coach Abdullah Avci had defended his wayward star, who joined the club on a two-and-a-half year loan deal back in January, in the aftermath of the incident.

'These things are part of the game. We can't be bothered by the thoughts of those who write on social media, people that we don't even know,' Avci told reporters after the game.
But the Basaksehir boss will undoubtedly be feeling let down now with Turan unavailable for the Super Lig run-in after being hit with the huge suspension.
Avci's men currently sit in third position on level points with Fenerbache and three behind league leaders Galatasary with games against Antalyaspor and Kasimpasa to come.
