Breathe in! Space-saving hotel offers ONE METRE- wide sleeping pods with only a curtain for privacy

  • The First Cabin hotel chain in Tokyo is decked out with pod-like sleeping chambers
  • They include 24 inch LCD TVs, a light, a 'ventilation function' and a little box to put shoes in
  • Stays in the space-saving pods are currently listed at £42 per night via booking.com

If you suffer from claustrophobia then this Japanese hotel might not be for you.

The First Cabin hotel chain is decked out with pod-like sleeping chambers which measure 1.2m wide, 2.1m deep and 1.4m high.

The particulars note that the 'rooms are partitioned by an accordion curtain thus sounds may leak' but the tiny capsules have all the amenities one could need, including 24 inch LCD TV and a little box to put shoes in.

To ensure you don't overheat in the pod, there is a 'ventilation function' and an emergency button if something goes awry.

There is also a light in each pod so guests can see what they're doing as they navigate the 2.5m² of space.

For those who can't hack the coffin-like Premium Economy Class Cabins, the airplane-inspired First Cabin hotel has a range of larger rooms.

The Business Class Cabins have higher ceilings but are still fairly compact, with the same 100cm-wide mattresses.

However, the First Class Cabins are quite a bit roomier with a width of 2.1m.

They include 'semi-double beds' measuring 120cm wide, and the rooms include corner side tables.

For couples, there is a Premium Class Cabin which is designed to sleep two. These suites also have private bathrooms.

First Cabin has locations across Japan, with outposts in cities including Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Some of the hotels include restaurants and bars with room service on offer.
